What is the Brazil Base?
This base aims to revitalize academic exchange activities centered on joint research by strengthening collaboration with the University of São Paulo, with which we have an inter-university agreement, to promote forward-looking academic exchange activities across multiple fields.
This will be achieved by rebuilding the support system for Japanese nationals,
Japanese descendants, and collaborators residing locally.
(1) Promoting the recruitment of outstanding international students
Utilize programs such as the JICA Program, the Government-Sponsored Scholarship Program, and the University of São Paulo Program to secure outstanding students, primarily from partner universities.(2) Support for Students Sent by Our University
We will apply for programs such as the JSPS Bilateral Exchange Program and promote the dispatch of our graduate students.(3) Collaboration with Local Alumni Associations
We will also rebuild this pipeline, centered on the local Japanese community, in collaboration with staff from the University of São Paulo.(4) Collaboration with local industry, academia, and government

As part of ongoing collaborative research and international exchange projects in the environmental field, we will hold events such as symposiums.(6) Promotion of Academic Exchange and International Collaborative Research
In addition to advancing ongoing international collaborative research projects led by the Brazilian side, the Japanese side will also proceed with new applications for grants such as the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) KAKENHI.(7) Internship and Employment Support
Through the University of São Paulo and the affiliated institutions of the joint research team, we will support internships at Hiroshima University for Brazilian students, as well as provide internship opportunities at Hiroshima University for students from the University of São Paulo.
Visit to the São Paulo Hiroshima Cultural Center and Hiroshima University São Paulo Branch
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Professor Kyoji Maruyama, Dean of the Faculty
of Education at Hiroshima University, along with Associate Professors Makiko
Mitsugi and Jongseong Kim, visited the Hiroshima Cultural Center (Centro
Cultural Hiroshima do Brasil) located in São Paulo, Brazil, and the Hiroshima
University São Paulo Branch housed within it.
During this visit, they assessed the current state of the facilities and
exchanged views on future collaboration and cooperation possibilities through
meetings with the Center's Chairman and related directors.
The Hiroshima University Branch within the Hiroshima Cultural Center is
an overseas base established on April 27, 2009, serving as a key component
of Hiroshima University's international education and research network.
The establishment of this center is expected to promote the acceptance
of students from Brazil and Latin America, as well as researcher exchanges.
